Frequently Asked Questions

Are the boots left and right?

There isn't enough anatomical difference between a greyhound's left and right paws, front or back to warrant making individual boots for left and right, front or back. The only thing that really can vary is the size of foot, front to back.

This is the reason we sell in pairs; to allow customers with a greyhound foot variance to choose the appropriate size.

Over time, the Summer boots can take on a molded "left and right" appearance, especially with repeated wetting and drying, and if yours do you can mark them as such somewhere inconspicuous.

The L stamped on the bottom that can lead to confusion means Large (not Left) and is only present in size Large boots. If you're using them, the inserts also have a Registered® stamp on them which could be confused for "Right".

The exceptions to this are our slippers as they are mitten-style and loose fitting.

How long can I leave footwear on my dog?

Hunnyboots are designed for walks and active time only. We recommend taking them off when your pup heads to bed or flops onto the sofa. A dog’s foot shape changes when they recline, and boots can twist or become uncomfortable if left on too long.

Slippers are a bit more forgiving and can stay on longer around the house, but even then, it’s a good idea to give your pup’s feet a breather every couple of hours.

They're not designed to be worn unsupervised, it's always best to keep an eye on your pup while they're wearing them, just to make sure everything stays comfy and in place.

Winter boots in particular should be taken off once you’re back indoors. While they’re great for chilly walks and icy paths, paws can get a bit warm and sweaty if boots are left on too long inside. Dogs also regulate some of their body temperature through their paw pads; it’s one of the few places on their body not covered in fur. Allowing their feet to breathe after a walk helps them cool down naturally and keeps things dry, healthy, and comfortable.

Will this boot irritate and rub my greyhound's dew claw?

Hunnyboots are designed with greyhound anatomy in mind, especially sensitive dew claws. The boot widens at the top so you can slip it off easily after a walk without undoing the zippers. The zip opens the boot all the way to the toe, making it easy to get on.

The velcro strap is positioned above the wrist and below the dew claw, so it doesn’t make contact. The slightly wider upper fabric may sit over the dew claw, but won’t press on it.

Hunny herself has very sensitive dew claws and would bleed from other boots. We designed around that; no rubbing, no cutting, and plenty of space for toenails and knuckles. The boot profile is low and the strap should sit well clear.

If the straps are causing your dog issues, contact us as we can move the straps for you.

My dogs boots come flying off after one or two steps, what am I doing wrong?

The only thing holding any shoe on a dog is the strap around the wrist. If it's loose or simply not tight enough, it will come off - guaranteed.

Follow these steps and your Hunnyboots won't come off until you take them off.

My Greyhound's boots are a bit on the nose and grubby. Can I wash them?

Just like your own sneakers or trainers, boots that get wet and well-used can start to smell. We recommend rinsing them in cold water and giving them a light scrub with a very soft brush and a little face soap or mild dishwashing detergent. Human foot deodorizers are generally safe to use.

Some boys pee on their front feet, which can mean seriously smelly boots. We recommend using "P-Off" for that.

Please don’t use laundry detergent or put the boots in the washing machine. Even gentle detergents can contain alcohol, acids or ethanol, which combined with water will dissolve the glue holding the soles on. We can’t offer warranty on boots damaged by washing.

Can my Greyhound or Whippet run in Hunnyboots?

We don’t recommend greyhounds or whippets running freely in any kind of shoe, including Hunnyboots. At least, not yet.*

Greyhounds are built for blistering speed and sharp turns. They use their claws for grip, balance and braking. No shoe can truly replicate that feel under foot, and running in shoes can make it harder for them to judge their footing. The risk of slips, twists or collisions increases when they lose that tactile connection with the ground.

That said, we know some customers have experimented carefully. You may even see the occasional photo of a whippet enjoying a sprint in their Hunnyboots. We're not saying it's safe. We're just saying it happens.

*We’re developing a new boot specifically for sighthound off-leash activity. It’s pretty close to announcing, but we’re still working on it.

A whippet mid-zoom, Hunnyboots on board. Use common sense and always supervise. It happens.

We are wondering about how they'll hold up in snow and cold conditions?

The best way to think of Hunnyboots is that they are sneakers, or running shoes you'd wear to an activity such as a fun run, or 'Tough Mudder' event where they may get wet (just like a pair of cross-fit Nikes) but will drain out and dry off. They're made of largely similar material.

With regard to freezing conditions, we expect they would behave in the same way as a pair of Nike runners - that is to say they will absorb water and very likely freeze as we'd imagine human runners would.

They'd be fine for icy roads and pathways from a traction perspective and for romping in the snow, but they will get wet and cold and so will the greyhounds feet.

Can I buy one boot? Why do I have to buy two?

There are many reasons why people are buying boots for greyhounds. Some are as a safety measure because they walk on city streets. Some are for therapeutic reasons post surgery and active corn procedures. Some are purely for the fashion aspect - greyhounds are very stylish after all!

If you need boots for every day walking and avoid the pain and costs of dealing with gravel and glass stuck in a paw, or your greyhound has corns and you want to ease their pain on walks, then Hunnyboots is an excellent choice.

However, if your greyhound has a chronic issue and you really only need a single boot, there are plenty of other options you can buy. We recommend the Thera-paw brand, they have been providing therapeutic assistance to dogs for many years and have a shoe product to fit greyhounds.

Where do you ship to?

Everywhere in North America.

Are there extra import duties or tariffs on Hunnyboots products made in China?

Some of our products are designed, assembled and customized in Australia, using carefully selected components from around the world. That includes high-quality YKK zippers from Japan and other specialized materials from China.

Even though the final work happens in Australia as our shipping country of origin, U.S. customs regulations determine a product’s country of origin based on where the major transformation occurs. Because some key components are made in China, our products are officially classified as "Made in China" for import purposes.

This means they are subject to U.S. tariffs under current trade policy. However, we want to be clear - you are not charged any additional duties or fees. We absorb those costs entirely so the price you see is the price you pay.

We are committed to keeping it that way for as long as possible. That said, international trade rules can change quickly, and future government decisions may affect our ability to continue covering those costs. If anything does change, we will let you know and continue doing our best to minimize the impact on you.

How long will my order take?

We pack and ship from our warehouse every working day. Public holidays may add an extra day or two.

Do you offer exchanges?

We do, but it depends entirely on stock availability at the time your return is processed. For that reason, the quickest and most reliable option is to issue store credit once we receive your return. That way, you can place a new order in the size or color you need without delay.

If you're hoping to exchange for something specific, feel free to leave a note in your return request and we’ll do our best to help. Just keep in mind that like our pups, our stock can move fast!

I bought the wrong size, can I exchange?

Short answer, yes!

We want every hound to have perfectly fitting boots, and we’ll work with you to make that happen. All we ask is that you work with us too.

You’re welcome to return an item for an exchange or store credit, provided it’s unused and in original condition. Please keep all fitting and testing indoors, as we can’t accept returns that have been worn outside.

This policy applies to sizing issues and change-of-mind returns, and does not affect your rights under U.S. Consumer Law.

Once we receive and approve your return, we’ll issue your credit so you can place a new order in the correct size. Just follow the return instructions in your account, or reach out if you need help.

I’ve changed my mind, can I return my order and get a refund?

If you’ve changed your mind, just get in touch and have a chat with us. We’re a small family business, and we try to be fair about things. While U.S. law does not generally require retailers to accept returns for change of mind, we understand that life happens and there are often good reasons behind a request.

If the item is unused and in its original condition, we’ll do our best to help. We may offer an exchange, store credit, or a refund at our discretion.

How long is my warranty?

At Hunnyboots USA, our products come with a voluntary warranty:

  • 90 days for Summer Boots and Winter Boots, covering manufacturing defects

  • 30 days for Slippers

These warranties are in addition to your rights under U.S. law. If you purchase a product in the U.S., you are also protected by implied warranties (such as that the product is of satisfactory quality, fit for its ordinary purpose, and works as advertised). The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act requires that any written warranty be clearly and fully disclosed. If your item develops a fault outside our voluntary warranty period, we will still review your claim fairly and reasonably.

For customers outside the United States, local consumer laws may also apply. While our voluntary warranty terms remain the same, we always aim to resolve any issues fairly, no matter where you are.
